How to register a marriage or birth
As the UK and Mozambique are members of the Commonwealth there are no special procedures for arranging a marriage for a British citizen in Mozambique. If you are British and intend to marry in Mozambique you should follow exactly the same procedure as a Mozambican citizen. If you are intending to marry in Mozambique then you should contact your local registry authority to arrange the necessary documentation, well in advance of your intended wedding date.
Certificates of No Impediment
As there are no special procedures for UK citizens marrying in Mozambique the High Commission cannot issue a Certificate of No Impediment (Certificado de não Impedimento), following a notice period. This is in line with our legal obligations and similar practice by members of the Commonwealth. If you have been resident in the UK prior to your marriage date then you should contact your local registry office in the UK to arrange the relevant documentation.

Registering Birth
If your child is born in Mozambique you can register the birth at the British High Commission. You don’t have to do this, but if you do your child will be given a British style birth certificate and the birth will be registered at the General Registry Office in the UK.
We recommend consular birth registration because it means you’ll be able to get extra copies of the certificate from the General Registry Office in the future.
