The Work of the British High Commission, Maputo
The British High Commission in Maputo represents the interests of Britain and the British Government in the Republic of Mozambique. Our job is to inform and influence the Mozambican Government on all matters of common interest to Britain and Mozambique, particularly in respect to bilateral and multilateral co-operation between the two countries; to keep the British Government informed about Mozambican developments and views; to help British businessmen secure orders and contracts in Mozambique; to help the resident British Community and British visitors in Mozambique; and to help Mozambicans wishing to visit Britain.

The High Commissioner and the Deputy High Commissioner
The High Commissioner and the Deputy High Commissioner supervise and direct the work of the High Commission. The High Commissioner, as the public face of the High Commission, represents the interests of the British Government in dealings with Mozambique Ministers and officials. The Deputy High Commissioner besides supporting the High Commissioner on chancery matters he/she also supervises the day to day running of the High Commission.

The Political and Press and Public Affairs Sections
The Political Section of the High Commission is the channel through which most government-to-government business between Britain and Mozambique is conducted. Working with the High Commissioner and the Deputy High Commissioner are the Vice Consul and Press and Public Affairs and his/her Assistant. This Section reports to the British Government on political and economic developments in Mozambique. They seek to influence the Mozambican Government’s policies on issues of concern to Britain globally.  The Press and Public Affairs Section deals with public enquiries about Britain as well as with enquiries from Mozambican media and government departments about British Government policy. It issues press releases and other information about the United Kingdom and British partnership initiatives with Mozambique.

Defence Section
The Defence Section is the channel through which most national defence business is conducted between Britain and Mozambique. The Section is headed by the Defence Attaché, with Residence in Harare, Zimbabwe. The Defence Attaché liases with the Mozambican Ministry of Defence, the General Staff and the individual armed services on issues related to military co-operation between Britain and Mozambique. The Defence Attaché is supported locally by the Deputy High Commissioner.

Commercial Section
The High Commission runs a small but flexible Commercial Section comprising of two officials. The Commercial Section falls under the umbrella of the UK Trade and Investment. It offers specialist advice to British businessmen seeking new opportunities to invest in a variety of sectors in the Mozambican market; they can also help Mozambican companies to access British goods and services. The Section facilitates joint ventures between Britain and Mozambique, and helps to organise trade promotions of various kinds. Britain has been one of the largest investors in Mozambique for many years.

Consular Section
The British Consulate is here to look after the interests of British Nationals visiting, or living in Mozambique. The Consular Section helps British nationals who have serious accidents or fall ill and have no-one to help on the ground. They visit and advise British nationals who are detained by the authorities, process passport applications, register births and deaths of British nationals occurring in Mozambique. The High Commission also runs an Honorary Consulate in the city of Beira.

Management Section
The management section provides logistical support to the High Commission.
