Our High Commission in Maputo
Mozambique and Britain have had close contact for centuries, as the historic British High Commission building in the heart of Maputo bears witness. British traders, investors and missionaries have all played a part.
Initially a Consulate - David Livingstone was an early Consul for Britain in Mozambique - in the days when a young Winston Churchill took refuge during the Boer War (1899), the High Commission now focuses on the issues affecting democracies in the 21st Century, trying to ensure Mozambique benefits rather than loses from the reality of globalisation. The building of the High Commission still keeps its architectonic touch.
